Hi,

I had a property that foreclosed in Kaneohe a few years ago and the bank has not yet issued a 1099. My credit show "cancellation of debt". I have previously called the mortgage company asking if they are going to send me a 1099, but responded that they wouldn't (which I found strange). My question is, how long do they have to send me a 1099? Is there a statute of limitations for them sending me one?

Thanks,

Peter

I would like to make an appointment to meet with an attorney to file several unfiled years of taxes. I am a resident of California, but have been working and living in Honolulu for a year and would like to work with a local attorney instead of one of the internet firms or those seen on television -- as I paid one of those in Florida and they did not help me. I am an independent contractor and can not control my income as other people do and have been sometimes unemployed with no right to health insurance or unemployment. When I have been very ill and needed blood transfusions, it took a very long time to get medical treatment and needed surgery. The last thing on my mind was my tax debt. I am well enough right now to work, and have a stable income, but the tax problems are causing me a great deal of anxiety and I need counsel. I would like to somehow get my life back on track with the IRS, so that my life seems worth living again. I do not want the IRS to do anything to me that would cause me to lose my housing or my job or go to prison. I want to pay them somehow. I am willing to pay for the services of a lawyer to get my finances on track. My phone number is 808 216 7241. I live in Waikiki. I do not have a car, but can walk to Ala Moana Blvd for an appointment.
Sincerely

If the state took money out of my account, namely all of it, to pay taxes after I fell on hard times and moved to a different state and took a job in a volunteer organization, do I still owe them money if the amount they took was less than taxes owed? Or is that considered paid in full?

I just wanted to thank you very much for this enlightening article. I have already bookmarked your site, when I have more free time I am going to have to do some further reading. Well back to my dreaming of Panama or back to the books - I wonder which one is going to win out. :)
